"Let Knowledge Serve the City." That's the motto of Portland State University and they certainly provide knowledge to many within the area. In terms of athletics, the Portland State Vikings compete at the NCAA Division I level for sports ranging from volleyball to golf. They are also a member of the Big Sky Conference for football and the Pac-10 Conference for wrestling. The time and frequency standards for many of their alumni have helped them build great careers in athletics. Notable graduates include Olympian Bree Schaaf Boyer and football star Tony Curtis.

They have been recognized for their Watershed Stewardship Program and are committed to continuing to build a sustainable and green environment for their students. The university sits on fifty acres of land and much of this has been kept as green space, even though the university is located in the heart of Portland.
